Sometimes I come across stories I just can’t let go – such as this one by Lisanne Spaander.

Some time ago I watched the television program ‘Puur Geluk’ (Pure Luck). This is a program about people who deserve a bit of luck in their lives. The episode featured the life of then 16 year old Lisanne Spaander, a girl who can sing beautifully but unfortunately suffers from a horrible disease: bone cancer.

The story touched me and I felt it was worth sharing. Despite her illness, Lisanne is still a very positive person. Music is her passion and her outlet. She wrote the song ‘Vechtersbaas’ (Fighter) not long after her diagnosis, in which she tells her story.

Binnenkort ga ik 2 workshops geven tijdens het week van het licht bij Cameratools in Apeldoorn.

Tijdens deze workshop zal ik met model Marijke werken. Je kent haar onder andere van de zeemeermin fotoshoot en de gothic fantasy fotoshoot.
De workshop is “Portretfotografie met een twist” maar wat dat persies in houdt zie je tijdens de workshop. 😉

Mijn workshops zijn op Maandag 7 December om 11.00 uur en om 14.00 uur. De workshops duren ongeveer een uur.

It’s been a few weeks since I photographed this, but nevertheless it is one of my favorite photoshoots I’ve had this year. Photographing a mermaid had been on my to-do list for a long time. I love everything that has anything to do with fantasy, fairytales or magic anyway.

The photoshoot was planned in October. In the Netherlands you can never really count on the weather but generally you are way into autumn already and thus it’s COLD! Unfortunately, planning it earlier wasn’t possible since Model/Merman Alex would come over from Paris that weekend, for the photoshoot and to go swimming together with mermaid Marijke.

Luckily, the weather was kind to us and it ended up being one of the warmest fall days of the wear, with temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius. YAY! That means we had more time to take photos other than the estimated ten minutes, because of the chance of undercooling of the models.

So, we had more time to take photos than we originally expected. This enabled me to take extra pictures of Marijke and Alex separately from each other, which was something I really wanted to do as well but didn’t think I was able to because I expected much colder weather.

For this photoshoot I used the ELB400 by Elinchrom, with the Elinchrom Deep Octa 100 without front diffuser for more contrast. It was very easy for me to go for the ELB400.

-It runs on a battery.

And considerably long too! After 200 flashes on full power, the batterywas only half empty. It doesn’t have any cables and doesn’t have a plug – outlets are hard to find on the beach anyway. 😉

– Lightweight.

It only weighs 2 kilos.

– Power.

It was a very sunny day. In the middle of the afternoon, around 13:00 when the sun was at its brightest I still managed to push the sunlight away with my flash. Of course this will only work when your subject is relatively close to the light source. Just imagine what you can achieve with these flashes at dusk or dawn when the sunlight is weaker and you are able to use the flash to control your light even more. With the launch of the new EL Skyport HS Plus the opportunities of flashing over ambient light have also become a lot more extensive. This photoshoot took place before the launch of the new Skyport; otherwise I would have loved to test its versatility. during this photoshoot.

– User friendliness.

With the ELB400 strapped to my assistant’s shoulder, the flash head on top of a monopod and attached to it the Deep Octa 100 my assistant was literally a ‘voice activated lightstand’. This is perfect when you are choosing a location between water and rocks and you sometimes need to climb towards your desired photoshoot location.

Today I want to talk to you about the results using only the Elinchrom Litemotiv 120. This way, you are able to see better what the possibilities are of working with one softbox. This is a continuation of my previous blog post, which you can read here.

This time I will show you the range of possibilities you have with the use of several photos; adding a short explanation of the light setup per photo.

Model: Charissa Leeuwin

In the photo below I have placed the softbox diagonally in front of the model, on the right side from our point of view. I am standing next to the softbox and the softbox close to Charissa. The biggest advantage of this softbox is (I’m already giving it away) is its size! Because of its large surface, properly lighting your subjects becomes much easier.

The softbox can also be put quite close to your subject to achieve a soft light which will at the same time give an even distribution of light over the full body. The only thing that comes up slightly darker are her shoes but I don’t mind that because the focus of a fashion photo is generally on the face and the clothing anyway.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to use the Elinchrom Litemotiv 120 for a fashion photoshoot. The theme was pastel-coloured summer clothing.

It was a great party (with cake of course!) because the model Fabienne was celebrating her birthday; but to me as well because this was my first official photoshoot with the Elinchrom Litemotiv.

Vandaag in mijn blog de resultaten die alleen zijn gemaakt met alleen de Elinchrom Litemotiv 120 cm. Zo kunnen jullie nog beter zien welke mogelijkheden je met 1 softbox kan creëren. En is dit eigenlijk een vervolg van mijn eerder blog welke ; hier te lezen is.

Dit keer laat ik door middel van diverse foto’s zien wat de verschillende mogelijkheden zijn. Met daarbij een korte uitleg van de opstelling per foto.

Voor onderstaande foto heb ik de softbox schuin van voren neergezet voor ons aan de rechterkant. Eigenlijk sta ik naast de softbox en staan ik en de softbox dicht bij Charissa. Het grote voordeel van deze softbox is, en eigenlijk verklap ik het nu al, is zijn formaat! Doordat hij groot oppervlakte heeft kan je hierdoor mensen goed uitlichten.

Ook kan de softbox toch dichtbij gezet worden om een zacht licht te krijgen die toch bijna full body gelijkmatig uitlicht. Alleen de schoenen verlopen naar iets donkerder maar ik vind dit geen probleem omdat de focus meestal toch op kleding en het gezicht ligt.

Aantal weken terug had ik de mogelijkheid om de Elinhrom Litemotiv 120 cm te gebruiken voor een fashion fotoshoot. De thema voor deze fotoshoot was gericht op pastel kleurige kleding voor de zomer.

Het was een ontzettend leuk feestje (met taart!) omdat het model Fabienne jarig was. En stiekem voor mij omdat dit mijn eerste officiële fotoshoot was met de Elinchrom Litemotiv.

Zoals eerder vermeld in een eerder blogpost sta ik vanaf vandaag op de beurs Professional Imaging in Nijkerk. Ik sta bij de Fotoflits stand uitleg en demo’s te geven met een team van fotografen, modellen, visagisten en stylisten.

Bezoek je de beurs? Kom dan vooral even kijken en kennis maken bij de stand.

Vandaag plaats is voor diegene die de beurs komt bezoeken een handige plattegrond zodat je de stand gemakkelijker kan vinden.

Maya is in de studio geweest voor een fotoshoot voor haar portfolio. Deze foto’s gaat ze gebruiken voor haar portfolio als model. Ze is pas 9 jaar en dit was de eerste keer voor de camera!

Voor Maya heb ik in 2 uur tijd diverse foto’s gemaakt in verschillende licht set-ups en achtergronden. Zo geef ik haar verschillende opties en is het ook voor het modellen bureau al een variatie in expressies en sfeer. Net of het meerdere fotosessies zijn geweest.
